"I come down to the water to cool my eyes. But everywhere I look I see fire; that which isn't flint is tinder, and the whole world sparks and flames."
— Annie Dillard
You captured the small town feel perfectly. The little baton twirler especially. Her smile and joy of being in the parade is evident. Yes, allredmop contributed to the grandkids but the other side of the gene pool had red hair too. I have been asked by their parents to not publish their faces so I don't have too many of just the back of them. It limiting but I do understand.
I just finished checking out your friend's website, Blue.....how creative!!!loved the pendants .. when in town, i'd love to visit her studio.......:) is there something in the water of North Carolina that makes you all an artist??? :)
atticus- yes, there is an intimacy in small town parades. i've never been to one in a big city, so i can't make a comparison... but in our town, half the fun is seeing every one you know on the floats! :) it's always a very festive thing....
Great photos. The atmosphere of a small town parade is so different because you usually know people in the parade. The sunshine was an added bonus, too!! Thanks for the link to your hubby's blog. I look forward to seeing what he makes! Paula

I like the tractors. Makes me remember my country roots.
You've captured a piece of Americana. These are the types of photos you'd see in Life magazine.
Small town parades make me very emotional, indescribable really. There is something very authentic about them.
I love parades too! They are a great source of pictures and memories.
The church and blue sky make an amazing backdrop and add so much to the pictures! Great!
Now THAT would have been fun to see.
Things that make me smile... little boys with curly hair and soulful eyes... :)
