Amazing Grace.....

My husband and I rarely think it's worth it to pay a babysitter and the high price of tickets to go see a movie in the theatre. We tend to wait until it comes out on video. On occasion, though, Hollywood releases a movie of substance...one that I believe can inspire and make a difference in this world....and one that we deem worthy of going to see in the theatre, if nothing more than to do our small part in supporting such movies. I believe Amazing Grace is one of these films. It is the true-life story of William Wilberforce and his campaign to end slavery in Britain. There is also a campaign to go along with the movie...an effort to raise awareness of modern-day slavery that is still rampant in our world. Go here to check it out.

I was made aware of this movie by a fellow blogger, Christianne. Her and her husband are involved in this campaign and I am grateful that she's using her voice for this important movement.
Also, here is a wonderful review and very inspiring post by Kirsten, another blogging friend, who writes about what she gleaned from this film. Definately worth the trip over......

My husband and I saw this movie on Saturday night. I thought it was "amazing" (fitting. :) He was completely blown away by the movie--and it is rare when a movie blows my husband away--his tastes are discriminating. He loved the acting, the costumes, and the whole movie itself. Thanks for the links, I love seeing how it has affected people.

Me too, me too -- thank you for posting about this film and how it moved you, and for linking to my post about it.

I'm with you -- one of the reasons we wanted to be involved with promotions is because we want people to support it in the theatres, too, in order to send a message to Hollywood to keep these kind of films coming. We were privileged to attend a conference last month on the life of Wilberforce and hear a talk by Michael Flaherty, the president of Walden Media and Bristol Bay Productions, who produced the film. It was so inspiring to hear his take on being in the movie business.

Unfortunately, Hollywood only listens to $$ -- so for any of those who haven't yet seen it, it's certainly worth the $20 date!

Thanks for the recommendation. We're so out of it when it comes to TV and film - we're definately fellow renters :)
But, this seems like a good reason to drop off the kiddies at Grandma's and get out for awhile.

Many at our church have seen the film and have talked of nothing else. I think we will try to see it before it moves on. Thanks for the recommendation.

It's always heartening when a movie comes along that can truly move people, that has the capability to change the world. Thank you for this heartfelt review: I'll watch for it in my burg.

My wife and I feel similarly about movies: most of them are forgettable, and just not worth the extreme cost of an evening out.

But when you can be moved to this degree, any amount seems worth it.

I rarely go to the movies but this looks worth the trip! Do you know if it will be out on video? If not, looks like I may have to just go to the movies! ;) Thanks for the recommendation.

I signed the petition!

bbm- i'm sure it will come out on video at some point. it opened in theaters this past weekend, so it will be a while. i recommend seeing it in the theatre if at all possible, but i know with little ones that can be hard.

christianne- we actually haven't seen it yet. our plan was to go this coming weekend...but i've been calling around and none of the theaters in our area are showing it....HUGE bummer! i'm gonna keep calling and bugging them!

I enjoyed your post. I wondered what people were thinking of the movie. The links were also very good and informative. We hope to see it also.

We can't wait to see this - alas, our tiny town cannot boast of a movie theater, so hopefully we will get to see it on the big screen; but if not, most certainly on video!
Thanks for the review and the links!

elise- our town doesn't have a theater, either....and the nearest theater we've been able to find that's showing it is an hour and a half away.....

You've got to see Amistad too, if you haven't already. It was one of my all time favorites about the same subject....with Anthony Hopkins. I will eventually see this one.
