An Appalachian March...........
I think this will be a week of photographs here on Ruminations. We had another March snowstorm over the weekend and decided to be adventurous and take a drive to look for photo opportunities. As I've mentioned before, you don't have to look very hard here in the beautiful Appalachian mountains. I'm going to start with black and white and then, in a couple of days, do the same photos in color. I'd like to hear your feedback as to which you prefer, because I couldn't decide. They each have a totally different feel to me. So, here is a little glimpse of March in Appalachia.........

Wow, I love the photos. I'll await your post so I can see them in color too. I can never choose either, though sometimes particular photos look so amazing either B&W or color.
I'll read Fred's article later, I have kids pulling on my leg now! LOL
Fantastic photos (as always!!).
I have an appreciation both for the black & white and for the color photos. I love black & white for a timeless feel, and especially love how it makes things contrast so starkly. I also love color because nature is full of it (especially when the snow finally melts!!).
I want to come visit wherever you live; I'm sure I would love it there!
Just read Fred's post & the PDF file that he linked to. WOW. I've always been more of an outside person & like his granddaughter found the flashing lights & loud noises to be mind-numbing and rather dull. Thanks for linking to that - it's wonderful to be able to encounter such like-minded people! :o)
I definitely like the second photo with the tree and snow in greyscale as well as the roll of hay with snoe on top! =)

okay....somebody tell me what "greyscale" means....i'm assuming black&white. i don't know photography lingo..... :)
Great pictures! It sure looks beautiful there, even in black and white. I particularly love the second picture with the lone tree across the vast plain.
These are wonderful photos! I love the B&W....sometimes I think it is so much more dramatic! :) I want to see the color ones too but I am thinking I am going to prefer these!
christianne- that's my favorite, too....i about got us in a wreck, telling my husband to pull over real quick cause i HAD to get a picture of that tree! :)

Love the black and white shots. Each one is perfect. Glad you yelled to stop on the one of the lonely trees. Its a real winner.
Hello dear! What fabulous photos and such a lovely site you have! I've always had secret longings to run off to Appalachia, somewhere... I wish I had a long lost relative there! Have you ever seen the documentary "Appalachia"? They sure did a fine job capturing your history and the lure of it all...
dani- i love that documentary....very well done and highlighted what wondrful culture and music we have here. i think we get so stereotyped sometimes....but the appalachian people and culture are rich in music, folkcrafts, stories, and heritage......
