A Little Local History.....

The Old Judy Church
.....

This church is still standing in a nearby county...
the county where my grandfather grew up.

It is called "the Old Judy Church". I'm not sure where the name originates, but the church is the oldest log church in the county. It was built in 1848 and made from hand-hewn white pine logs cut nearby.

The Judy Church served as a Methodist-Episcopal church until 1910, when it was abandoned. It now stands on private property and is well looked after. They even host community events there on occasion.

A great historical landmark to have....
If you listen closely, you might even hear the faint sound
of old shape-note hymns and harmonies floating
on the Sunday afternoon breeze..........

Since I am an "old Judy" I prefer to think it was named after me!

I know that this is a church but my whole childhood I wanted to live in a log cabin. This just reminds me of all the planning I did about it. Thanks!

We have a church a stone's throw away that is old but still in use. It still has outhouses for the small congregation. It's not as little as this one and not log.

Love the old buildings, glad it is being kept up and shared.

Wonderful "mystic" feeling created by your words on the old shape note hymms. Physicists have theorized that perhaps no sound created on our Planet Earth ever really dies. If that is true, these old refrains may today be hurtling through distant galaxies, spiraling along among the stars millions of light years away, to someday be discovered (if not already) by someone or something incrediby more ancient than even these Old Mountains among which the songs themselves were once sung.
