Are You Connected?
I want to give a very, VERY sincere thank-you to all of you who have been taking action against the destruction of our mountains here in Appalachia. It has been such an encouragement to me and gives me hope. Here is one more step you can take......Enter your zip code above and find out if your electricity comes from Mountaintop Removal Coal. If it does, please take the time to contact your electricity provider and ask them not to buy coal from companies that practice MTR mining. The link will let you know how. This is a wonderful tool and I believe it will have great impact..... If your electricity does come from MTR coal, the link will also tell you what community the coal is coming from. I'd be interested in hearing back from you once you do find out...... It will be interesting to see how many companies buy such coal. Thanks for joining the fight.... the people in Appalachia need your help!

I was shocked to find out that our supplier is indirectly involved with MTR. I will have to look into this somemore. Thanks for the link.

no wonder they say ignorance is bliss!!!
There's a badge with photo of mountain on it. I use Firefox.

Your banner is showing up beautifully as usual. I checked out our elec supplier and we are clean --in that respect. Our financials are not connected either, so that is good.

Thanks for posting this, Blue. I am happy to report that the power supplier we use does NOT use coal from mountaintop removal & that legislators from my state are on board. Hooray!
I was just checking my power company's website & discovered that they have a program whereby customers may (for a nominal additional charge) purchase their energy from exclusively green sources. Something worth doing!! I love it. I've posted the badge on my own blog & hope that with enough people out there making enough noise, we can put an end this!
I've submitted 2x - once for Applachian Power and once for Florida Power & Light.
thanks for looking into it everyone....
kirsten- that's great about your electrical supplier. what a wonderful option to have! we have to put our money where our mouth is, so to speak. and thanks for putting the badge on your site.
I figured out how much extra our bill would be & even with how much we've been using it this winter, it's only an extra $8 - $10 per month. A small price to pay!
Hey Blue mtn mamma,
Thanks for helping us spread the word about mountaintop removal! Hope you all will be interested in helping to do the same. We are also looking for people to bug their congressman to sign on to the Clean Water Protection Act, which would help to end moutaintop removal. Email me at outreach@appvoices.org to learn more.
