I'm okay
if you get me at a good angle
and you're okay
in that sort of light
and we don't look
like pages from a magazine
but that's all right
that's all right
I crashed your pickup truck
and then I had to drive it back home
I was crying
I was so scared
of what you would do
of what you would say
but you just started laughing
so I started laughing along
saying, it looks a little rough
but it runs okay
it looks a little rough
but it runs good anyway
we get a little further from perfection
each year on the road
I guess that's what they call character
I guess that's just the way it goes
better to be dusty than polished
like some store window mannequin
why don't you touch me where I'm rusty
let me stain your hands
when you're pretty as a picture
they pound down your door
but I've been offered love
in two dimensions before
and I know that it's not all
it's made out to be
let's show them how it's done
let's do it all imperfectly

Wanted to let you know that 'Come Thou Fount' is one of my favorite hymns - so, to hear it here was sweet.
Have been blogging lots today so I'll bookmark you & come again to read.
Be Encouraged!
Wonderful lyric!
I ♥ Ani!
Love the lyrics. I like that its okay to not be perfect. I think that's something our kids need to plant in their souls. Good post.
I remember remarking this morning "who wnats a perfect life anyways!" and then i come here to see this post.....you have been reading my mind, Blue :)
loved the last two lines completely!!!!!
moi- if there's anything that i am absolutely confident of in life, it's that we are all imperfect..thus our lives, also. :)
mmmm, i love these lyrics! i had a friend a number of years ago who ADORED ani de franco. i have yet to hear her music myself, but i have a feeling i will really like that girl. :)
and yes, perfectionism is definitely over-rated!
christianne... i actually don't listen to her much anymore. but she is the voice for my female angst when i need it. although this is a milder song. :) she's no holds barred.
Wow! Great lyrics!
ah, perfectionism. what a trap, rife with impossibility.
what a beautiful thing it is to be able truly to let go, to be dusty & unpolished, to know you can be that way & still be loved.
needed to hear this today, thank you.
Really great lyrics. Reminds me a bit of the post over on Mark Galli's blog right now: Settling for Mr. Okay
Ani rocks poetry.
